Agerola is a horseshoe-shaped little village ( direi: a horseshoe-shaped little town ) on the hill slope of the “ Monti Lattari “. It overlooks the enchanting Fiord of Furore, which is also famous for the High Diving Competition taking place every year in July.
It is a place of extraordinary beauty with its natural mountain landscape and its pathways deeped into the green. Agerola preserves old historical evidences dating back to the pre-roman period, as well as remains of buildings used as workshops that carry our thoughts back to the glorious times of the Marine Republic of Amalfi. You cannot help admiring its fresh climate and salubrious air, owing to the woods surrounding it. Agerola is a much sought-after holiday resort. Benedetto Croce, Francesco Cilea and Salvatore Di Giacomo are only some of the personages who used to stay here in the past, charmed by the enchanting view of the coast as far as Capri. Agerola is also famous for its dairy products: the “ Provolone del Monaco “, P.D.O ( protected Designation of Origin ), the “ Caciocavallo “ and te typical “ Fiordilatte “, a kind of soft paste cheese made in different shapes, as: “ treccia “ ( plait ), “ ciliegine “ ( cherries ), “ bocconcini “ ( morsels ) and “ parallelepipedo “ ( parallelepipedal – shaped ). Mention must also be made of : “Pan Biscotto “, made of wolemeal flour or rye-flour ( well cooked to keep its natural crispness intact ), “ Taralli “ and “ Fresh white bread “.
