It is a place of extraordinary beauty with its
natural mountain landscape and its pathways deeped into the
green. Agerola preserves old historical evidences
dating back to the pre-roman period, as well as remains of buildings
used as workshops that carry our thoughts back to the glorious
times of the Marine Republic of Amalfi. You
cannot help admiring its fresh climate and salubrious air, owing
to the woods surrounding it. Agerola is a much sought-after
holiday resort. Benedetto Croce, Francesco
Cilea and Salvatore Di Giacomo are
only some of the personages who used to stay here in the past,
charmed by the enchanting view of the coast as far as Capri.
Agerola is also famous for its dairy products: the Provolone
del Monaco , P.D.O ( protected Designation
of Origin ), the Caciocavallo and te typical
Fiordilatte , a kind of soft paste cheese
made in different shapes, as: treccia ( plait ), ciliegine
( cherries ), bocconcini ( morsels )
and parallelepipedo ( parallelepipedal shaped ). Mention
must also be made of : Pan Biscotto , made
of wolemeal flour or rye-flour ( well cooked to keep its natural
crispness intact ), Taralli and Fresh
